Using Body Language for Confidence

Presence is that enigmatic, “can’t-quite-put-my-finger-on-it” quality that some people simply have. They walk into a room and immediately command attention – without saying anything!

Presence is made up of a number of things – the most important of which is confidence. The funny thing about confidence is that, even if you don’t feel it, you can pretend to feel it, and by pretending to feel confident, you actually start to feel confident. I call this “fake it ‘til you make it!” And the best way to fake it is with your non-verbal behaviour - how you use your voice and your body language.

Anyone can learn to use both their verbal and non-verbal language to cultivate presence and appear confident. This course will show you how.

Who Should Attend

Everyone can benefit from being more aware of the message they’re actually giving beyond the words they are saying, especially:

  • Managers wanting to appear confident and command respect from their employees.
  • Frontline personnel wanting to create a positive impression for their company.
  • Students and young adults wanting to make a good impression in job interviews or in the workplace.
  • Couples wanting to enjoy the benefits of clear communication.
  • Parents wanting to clearly communicate with their children.

Course Content

Module 1: Voice

There are four aspects of your voice to bear in mind:

  • Volume - how loudly you speak - you can whisper or shout.
  • Pitch - how deep your voice is – a deep ‘growl’ or high squeak.
  • Tone - the expression you put in your voice – warm and friendly or cold and brusque.
  • Speed - how fast the words are said.

Module 2: Body Language

When it comes to body language there are also four aspects to bear in mind:

  • Your posture - whether you open up or shut yourself off from others
  • Your use of gestures - what you do with your arms and hands
  • Your facial expression - which includes eye contact
  • Your spatial position – where you are in relation to the person with whom you are speaking.
