Hi Visitor Equipped to...Dare to DreamThis newsletter draws on "Stop Sabotaging Your Dreams", a comprehensive article found on my website. In a little over a month from now, the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Oympic Games will announce the start of what is surely the greatest display of sporting excellence in the world. Athletes at the very top of their game will compete for that most treasured symbol of their success – an Olympic Gold Medal. For two short weeks at the height of the European summer, people around the world will be caught up in the dreams and aspirations of the few hundred sportsmen and women taking part. This tendency we have of becoming swept up in the magic and appeal of other people’s dreams is not limited to great sporting events like the Olypmics. So often in every day life, we find ourselves trying to live someone else’s dream. Why is this? Why don’t we have our own dreams for our own lives? |

Stop Sabotaging Your DreamsTeachers, motivational speakers and coaches have been telling us years that if we want to live the life of our dreams we need to have a plan and set goals. Despite this, very few people are actually living the life they dreamed they would. Why? Because we unconsciously, but very effectively, sabotage our plans:
Believe in YourselfHaving a healthy self-esteem is key, as it is our beliefs about ourselves that really impact on what we achieve in life. If we have high self-esteem we value ourselves, and believe we are worthy and capable. If we have low self-esteem, we think we are useless, worthless and not good enough. As our beliefs about ourselves are mostly unconscious, you may need help from a psychologist to objectively analyse your beliefs and boost your self-esteem. Then you can create new beliefs that allow you to achieve your goals. Write down a list of affirmations (positive statements) about yourself, and pin these somewhere where you can read them everyday. This can help you replace any negative self-talk with positive self-talk. Contact me for help with unpacking your old beliefs and creating new ones. Make a Plan for Your own DreamsDo you want to get to the end of your life and realise that you have lived someone else's dream? If the answer is no, then your plan needs to be about your dreams, because if you are not living your dream then you are living someone else's! Your first step is to become clear about what your dream is. Ask yourself:
It is important to know what your values are, because values act as your compass and give you direction in life. To help you decide which values are most important to you, take a look at the list on my website. Have something to say?I would love to hear your story of how you’ve followed your dreams.
