Talks on Psychological Wellness

One of my greatest pleasures as a psychologist has been witnessing the shift in attitude towards mental health. Where consulting a therapist was once considered something to be ashamed of, it is now applauded as a positive step towards regaining and maintaining a healthy balance in your life.

People today are more pressurised than ever – at work and at home – and this is resulting in an increased number of lifestyle-related issues which need some form of professional help in order to be successfully addressed.

I offer a number of talks on these issues and how to deal with them:

Good Night, Sleep Tight!

Common habits can lead to poor and disturbed sleep. I can help you change these bad habits into good ones to ensure you sleep well and properly.

Feel the Burn

Knowing the signs and symptoms of burnout, as well as learning what you can do to prevent and/or reduce it, is key to leading a productive, healthy life.

Finding Order in Disorders

This talk includes, among others, Panic Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and phobias. This is helpful to both sufferers of the disorder, as well as family members, partners of sufferers etc. A talk specifically on Trauma & PTSD can help people who have experienced a trauma - such as a mugging or hijacking, for example – manage the after-effects to ensure a quick, healthy and positive recovery.

Managing Moods

Recognising the symptoms of mood disorders, or depression, is an important first step if sufferers are to be helped effectively. This talk will teach you some of the theories about what causes these disorders, as well as some of the issues around treatment and management. This is helpful to both sufferers of the disorders, as well as family members, partners of sufferers etc.

Suicide Watch

Learning the key signs and symptoms that indicate someone is at risk of suicide could help you save that person’s life.

Taming the Tiger

Learn about anger - what it is, how to manage our own anger, and how to deal with other people’s anger when it is directed at us.

Thinking about Therapy?

Understanding the popular counselling and therapeutic techniques used by psychologists today will give you some insight into what to expect if you go for counselling. I debunk some of the myths and misperceptions surrounding counselling and psychotherapy, and help you make informed decisions about what sort of psychologist you would like to visit to assist you with your specific need.

Trauma & Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Relevant to our society today, this talk outlines the symptoms people can expect after a traumatic experience such as mugging, hijacking, break-in or worse. Such knowledge can help one to be an effective and helpful support to others or enable you to help yourself cope in a healthy and effective way after such an experience. In this presentation I also outline what PTSD is, the symptoms to look out for and how and when it manifests. It dispels some of the commonly held myths around PTSD.
