Hi Visitor
Stressed to Kill
There are good and bad fats. There is good and bad cholesterol. And contary to what you may believe, there is good and bad stress!
It's true – an optimal stress level is actually good for us, enhancing effectiveness, decisiveness and creativity (and isn't this what we all want?).
Higher stress levels, however, are harmful and counterproductive.
In the 21st century, being stressed is regarded as a status symbol - if we are not stressed then something is wrong!
We seem to have lost the plot - it's not OK to be stressed! Excess stress is detrimental to our well-being and causes decreased productivity. Both individuals and organisations suffer.
Causes of Stress
This varies from person to person, as stress has little to do with the actual cause of the stress. It is more about the individual's perception.
The degree of stress we experience depends on a combination of factors:
- How important an event/situation is to us combined with our level of uncertainty about our ability to deal with it.
- A range of social and lifestyle choices.
